CHOICE Kitchen & Cocktails Profile
Sure, you could get comfy with a ten-ounce martini at a sidewalk seat, but those who venture deeper into this multi-function venue will find—between the front café and a rear dining room—two consecutive blond-wood bars that curve in and out to create inviting nooks. Elsewhere packs of girlfriends chat over tame music while 30-and-up office cliques use the bright lighting to wade through a list of thirty wines by the glass and quirky cocktails (some named for regulars at Choice's sister establishment the Uptown Lounge). Although red fabric lamps and mosaic detailing might outclass the neighborhood, Choice keeps prices humble for pints of Guinness sweetened by a shot of Stoli Vanil and traditional finger foods like quesadillas and fried calamari. The four rotating flat-screens in the main bar area are superfluous; on game nights, sports fans congregate in a sequestered drinking nook tucked behind the dining room and with its own television and hologram-lit fireplace.

Frequenters of frat row now have the Choice to try something classy. Doors spilling out onto Third Avenue are a step up for the bland Murray Hill banking crowd who’ve graduated from Bull’s Head but aren’t hip enough for West Chelsea. The long, handsome space feels like a cruise ship complemented by polished paneling and enormous windows. But don’t count your Hawaiian breeze just yet—the drunken crowds reflected in the corners of flat-screen televisions quickly reel you back to reality. Still, the sophisticated single-malt Scotch selection and drinks like the Choicetini, combined with an elevated dining area and scrumptious spread, are sure to impress any cosmopolitan companion.

On a typical night out you'll make more choices than you can count--let alone remember. So, why not make your first decision your best? Choice graces Murray Hill with a new, sophisticated twist on nightlife. The after work scene brings out the YHPs (Young Hot Professionals) who mingle in their little business cliques and well-starched collared shirts. Later, the dinner crowd packs the backroom, with its warm lighting and gold accents, to mingle over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres like flash-fried calamari and pan-Asian dumplings. Come late night the tables are pushed aside to make way for a dance floor that doesn't clear out until the lights come on. It's no wonder--there's bottle and bar service until 4am every night of the week. And, as always, some final decisions to be made.
